Entitled to Retirement Benefits from an Ex
Q: My husband and I recently divorced after 15 years of marriage. I am 48 and he is 51. Am I eligible to claim any benefits (such as social security) as we get closer to retirement?

You should be eligible to receive a portion of his social security as you have been married more than 10 years. If he has other assets such as a pension or retirement accounts, you are definitely eligible, though an attorney is necessary to help you negotiate the exact amount. It will also be dependent on how much money you have in your retirement account, if you have been working, if you have children and how good your lawyer is!
