Q: I know finances play a major role in a relationship but is it a deal breaker if the woman I am dating does not share the same philosophy as I do about money?

Recognizing that you do not have the same philosophy about money in a relationship can be a huge revelation. Before you decide if it is a deal breaker, I would delve further in trying to understand some of your differences. They may be stemmed from commitment or intimacy issues as well. Are they related to spending or an insistence that they want separate account or simply ignorance about their financial situation? Start by seeing how open they are to just talking about their money. If communication around this issue seems to stall, I might glance at other areas of the relationship as well. Perhaps its not just about the money.

It seems that there is always going to be some sort of money issues in couples. I don't know that calling it a deal breaker is necessarily the thing to do. There are ways to work these things out and hopefully you two can find a common ground somewhere in the midst of it all. I hope that you will let us know how things are going in the future.
