OKCupid recently released research that may come as a shock to some online daters. If you’re too good looking, especially if you’re a woman, you may not have much luck with online dating. Exactly why that is isn’t up in the air, but there are a few possible explanations.

If you look too good, the man may not even take the chance, believing that you are way out of his league. Men pretty much know, if they are realistic, the type of woman they have a shot at.

If you’re all decked out and made up, a man may think that you’re too high maintenance. Just how long will he have to wait for you to look like that? What do you look like when you’re not in your super model mode? Do you have to diet constantly? You may just exude the aura of lots of work to keep happy.

You may come across as being fake. So few people have the perfect complexion, the perfect body, the perfect smile. When you see a photo like that, you wonder if it was Photoshopped. If it looks too professional, he may think it’s not really yours and you’re one of those scammers.

Men also look at beauty differently than women. Not every man wants a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Barbie doll on his arm. That takes a lot of work to maintain.
