Turning 40 and Losing Sensation

Bookmark and Share Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Q: I have had 3 children and am nearly approaching 40. In the last few years I have noticed that the sensation of my genital areas has decreased.. almost so now that no matter how much it is stimulated, touch, liked, etc... I have barely any sensation. I find it very difficult to orgasm... if I do, it takes a long time and when I do it is over before it even begins. I have had sensations in this area before... so much so that even I someone ran their hand up my thigh I would scream. Do you have any suggestions or are there any medications for me?

Thank you for your question-it's an important one. I can understand how those decreased sensations are unsettling. Since there can be numerous reasons for the changes you are experiencing, from hormonal to relational, and many in between, I suggest you make an appointment ASAP with a trusted gynecologist and describe the problem in detail (including feeling down) to her/him. If need be, that physician may do tests and then determine which specialist can most appropriately help you with your situation.
